An Austrian party reached the summit of Cho Oyu (26,906 feet [8,201 metres]), just to the west of Everest, in October 1954. Primarily face climbing, with a few crack moves thrown in from time to time. We hope to raise awareness about our Club and our mountains as well as to mountaineer, climb and have fun. He hails from the beautiful town of Phortse, where he has helped instruct at the Khumbu Climbing Center. Four members of the party were killed in an avalanche and they failed to reach the summit.

When shooting on a glacier, I tend to have to wipe the lenses several times a day. After you do this, move up one rating and so on. I tried climbing from the faith ledge to virtue and knowledge ledges while I doubted God’s love for me. The highest active volcano in Ecuador is Cotopaxi. It’s all a blur now, but passing through a natural tunnel in the wall, seriously gripped traversing a vertical section 100 long, seemingly 1000s of meters above the valley floor, (no photo taken here!), then onto the final ladder, too vertical on failing arms… Just a blur… “This is real mountaineering,” Ton says to me as we make our way up the final steep slope on the North Face of the Mont Dolent.
